A locally owned and operated business serving Marlboro and Chesterfield counties in South Carolina for over 50 years. Current owner Carlisle T. Smith founded Warden and Smith, Inc. in 1956 with business partner A. F. Warden.
“We started a concrete business with a 1942 GMC Army surplus truck with a homemade concrete container attached to it,” - C.T. Smith When Warden passed away in 1965, Smith bought out his interest in the concrete company and became sole owner. After moving from the original location in Wallace, SC to the current Cheraw site, dispatch plants were added in Pageland and Bennettsville to facilitate coverage for all of Marlboro and Chesterfield counties. Smith, now 100, continues his involvement with regular visits to the office to provide guidance and advice to grandsons Burchell King (Vice President) and Brandon King (Office Manager) who handle day-to-day business matters.
